Daddy-Long-Legs by Jean Webster

This charmingly innocent book traces the relationship between orphaned Judy Abbott, who feels she has neither worth nor right to exist but is clever and has a gift for writing, and her mysterious benefactor known only as Daddy-Long-Legs, since he insists on remaining anonymous.

We learn of her progress at school, fun and tensions with her roommates and the families who invite her for holidays, and her struggle to know what to do with her life. All of these experiences and emotions she shares openly with her generous but unknown correspondant.

Rich language and realistically told girlish thoughts and feelings make this a very pleasant read and the denouement is delightful.
