The Wanderer’s Legacy by Natasha Woodcraft

As the third book in the epic Wanderer series, The Wanderer’s Legacy is a captivating read. Woodcraft transports us to a largely unexplored period; life is basic, yet people live for hundreds of years. Following the sparse biblical text, she shows us the first few generations torn between allegiance to God and worldly ambition. In her richly imagined world, the characters develop realistically as the complex plot progresses.
Principal characters
Young, amorous Adah, who has only hearsay knowledge of Yahweh, the Creator, strives for an upright life and suffers both physically and emotionally under the escalating idolatry and immorality around her. Can she escape her increasingly cruel husband? If she does, what will happen to her dearly loved sons? And will she ever find the peace she longs for?
Insecure and downtrodden Lamech, on the other hand, charms and flatters both his wives and expands his vast construction enterprise. But, in his hunger for power, he develops into a ruthless and arrogant businessman who chooses to worship the serpent-god.
Appraisal
It’s a well-written but lengthy book; following the interwoven timelines demands close attention. The unfolding plot reveals humanity’s growing depravity, foreshadowing God’s imminent judgment.
The Wanderer’s Legacy provides a strong and significant parallel to current global affairs. Powerful and haughty elites misuse their influence, fabricate lies for personal gain, live lavishly, and ruthlessly get rid of their foes, all under the guise of piety.
